The coolest directors right now
- Christopher Nolan is the new Alfred Hitchcock
- JJ Abrams is the new Steven Spielberg
- Zack Snyder is the new George Lucas
- Guillermo del Toro is the new Tim Burton
This is how I see it.
and Terrence Malick is the new Stanley Kubrick? Yes.
It’s late, so one gets away with caustic statements like: you might want to choose your words more carefully because I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about, and when I say words, I mean, “is the.” Right?
If we’re talking about auteurs, about which, must be pointed out, was derived from a theory, not proof, what are the arguments that the aforementioned individuals are indeed auteurs? Keep in mind, the theory was built out of the idea that directors could leave their mark on films of which they were otherwise not in control.
For example, how does Zack Snyder recreating “The Watchmen” shot by shot make him an auteur? (Momentary slo-mo don’t count, sorry).
